Ice Temperature

DID YOU KNOW?

The ideal ice surface temperature for figure skating is between:

-2.2 to -3.9 degrees Celsius or 25 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit

Hockey ice is, on average, 3 degrees colder than figure skating ice. Warmer (softer) ice enables figure skaters to hold the skating edge better and the ice is less likely to shatter from the impact of jumps. At the 2008 World Figure Skating Championships, the ice surface was maintained at a consistent -3.3 deg. C. or 26 deg. F.
