Jamie and Laurence at Quebec Sectionals & Challenge
Jamie Forsythe, representing Skate Kingston EOS, and Laurence Darveau, representing Boucherville Centre
Elite QC formed their new senior dance partnership in May 2009. Even though they have only been training
together as a dance team for six months, they have already competed in three invitational competitions and
Quebec Sectionals since the season started in August.
Jamie and Laurence earned two Silver Medals (for their Tango Romantica Compulsory Dance and their 4 ½
minute Free Dance) and one Bronze Medal (for their Latin Original Dance) at Autumn Skate held 17-20
September in Ottawa, Ontario.
With second place finishes in both their Original Dance and Free Dance at Quebec Sectionals held 28
October - 1 November in Sherbrooke, and a third place finish in their Golden Waltz Compulsory Dance, they
earned a Silver Medal, qualifying them to compete at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada Challenge at the Hershey
Centre in Mississauga, 2-6 December. The Challenge combines teams from across Canada that did not earn
byes to the Championships.
Jamie and Laurence finished 10th at Challenge. We had been informed that if they finished in the top 10
at Challenge they would qualify to compete at the 2010 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships in
January 2010. Unfortunately, Skate Canada only qualified the top 9 couples from Challenge to move on as
they gave the top six teams byes since they had been competing on the Grand Prix circuit this fall. It
is rather amazing that Jamie and Laurence even skated at Challenge since Jamie came down with strep
throat and the flu the day before their Golden Waltz Compulsory Dance. They finished 11th in Compulsory
Dance, 7th in Original Dance and 9th in Free Dance. Skate Kingston is extremely proud
of Jamie and Laurence and wishes them well next skating season.
When not training, Laurence, 18 is a full time high school student. Jamie, 22, continues with his
University studies at both Concordia and Athabasca University and is also a figure skating coach when
he’s not training full time with Laurence. As a Senior Dance Team they represent Quebec.
